This course introduces students to the history, culture and society of Japan through the interdisciplinary field of Japanese Studies. It will interest any student curious about Japan, both past and present. Covering various aspects of Japan from ancient period to the present, this course aims to familiarize students with Japan and methodologies of regional studies. By completing this course, students will be able to understand the general contours of Japan’s history, know basic geography of Japan, identify several disciplinary components of Japanese studies, and improve academic research and writing ability in liberal arts.
