The Impact of Multi-dimensional Proximities on University-Industry Cooperative Innovation: A Case Study of High-Tech Industries in Guangzhou

A talk by Hu Yang, Huizhou College

In recent years, foreign research on the relationship between proximity and innovation has extended their perspective from geographic proximity to multi-dimensional proximities, which have been initially applied in domestic research. And the relationship between multi-dimensional proximities and the U-I cooperative innovation has become a hot spot in the recent research. Based on this, this study takes Guangzhou’s high-tech industries as research object, and study on the influence of multi-dimensional proximities on U-I cooperative innovation. This study firstly distinguishes proximity factors which tend to affect the U-I cooperative innovation and explores this influence mechanism. Then this study discusses the effects of single geographical proximity on high-tech industry innovation in Guangzhou. Making geographic proximity as a breakthrough point, and combining with other dimensions of proximity, this study investigates the spatial distribution and relations of industries and science research institutions. At last, through multi-case studies, this study explores the influence of multi-dimensional proximities on U-I cooperative innovation.
