Integrated Design of New Energy Prototype Houses

- The Pixel House in the 2021 Solar Decathlon China

A talk by Xia Heng, Assistant Professor, Shenzhen University

The era of "Buildings as Power Stations" has arrived with the global consensus on the "dual carbon" goal. This also means that more than a hundred years ago, Le Corbusier's prediction that "a house is a machine for living" has been strengthened day by day. my country's new energy building environment technology industry has achieved rapid development. For example, China's photovoltaic industry has ranked first in the world, and its cost economy has already met the conditions for entering thousands of households, but its research space is still very large: 1) At present, the actual the conversion efficiency of the applied photovoltaic modules is only about 20%, and increasing the power generation efficiency by 1% requires a huge investment in basic research, so how can the remaining 80% of the energy be used? Can architectural designers use their professional strength to help the photovoltaic industry improve in terms of "quality"? 2) With the reduction of the cost of photovoltaics, this historical controversy has also been raised again - whether the household electricity is DC or AC? In addition, the emergence of end products like wireless kinetic energy switch products further liberates the possibility of building space? The above-mentioned new social trends have had an important impact on the concept of "Pixel House" designed by Shenzhen University, RMIT University, and Fan Power (Shenzhen) joint team. Taking the zero-energy "Pixel House" as an example, the seminar will share the design exploration of photovoltaic new energy small houses from the perspective of architectural design integration, and propose the simple point of view, technological innovation servant for our daily life.
