Wei Lei is a scholar of media and communication studies. She earned her PhD at the University of Technology Sydney. In December 2018, she joined the Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts at SUSTech. Her work focuses on media history, particularly in the area of radio studies, exploring the past and the present of radio(audio) practices and sociocultural changes in China. She has published widely on this subject in international refereed journals. Her most recent publication, which is also her first book, Radio and Social Transformation in China (Routledge, 2019) is recognized as the first systematic, comprehensive and critical English-language study of radio in China, making an important contribution to radio history internationally. Before starting her career at SUSTech, Dr. Lei has developed another research interest in international communication based on her observations of Chinese global media.
